I know there is probably going to be some backlash for typing this, but whatever:
I want to know why it can't just be that a person can be a Christian without being a hateful or stupid or blindly biased. I have scrutinized my ownn behavior in conversation and have found infinte space for which to fill with improvment, but I do not sound exactly like the common discriptions of the average Christian.
I do not enjoy:
Putting other people down for their mistakes
Attacking other people for said mistakes
Poloygonomous marriage
The burning of gays
The Middle Eastern wars
The death of LGBTQ persons
The mocking or slander of LGBTQ persons
The general harming of LGBTQ persons (Be it verbal or physical)
I do not believe:
In polygonomous marriage (I do understand that this was a custom on the Old Testament, but their were actually God ordained reasons for these marriages, and it is now considered sinful to have more than one spouse)
That all queers should die
(Really, if I can hardly stomach a history lesson on the Thrid Riche and Hitler's regime in which approximately 15,000 homosexuals were slaugtered, why would I want a repetion of mass murder in my lifetime? (And because I know it will come up, Hitler did call himself a Christian, but deeper studies have shown that he had dealings with the Thule and other cultist. Besides, I'm a Christian, and mass murder isn't on my to do list, thank you very much!))
That gay marriage is okay
(Now, this is where a huge debate lies. Just because someone is married to the same sex, however, I will not judge them solely off of that.))
That transgenderism is okay
(Not to hurt anyone's feelings, but I really think that certain aspects of this are out of control. I will post my full opinion on this topic a bit later.)
That it is okay to kick LGBTQ children from their homes
That it is okay to banish LGBTQ persons from a church
(Unless they are actually trying to force themselves on someone, then they should be allowed to stay among the congregation)
My list is getting longer as I type, so I think I will stop there. My point is, I am not the typical Christian regularly displayed in the news or in online posts. And my own family misunderstands my views as well. I actually cry when I see hateful comments about Christians because they make me feel ashamed. I also laugh sometimes when they are posted, because I (LOVE THE WAY YOU HATE ME). (And I love most generes of rock music, which is another generalization shattered.)
All I ask for is a chance to civily settle our diffrences. If the only choice is debate, then I shall gladly partake, because when it can be done without cursing and shouting, I actually enjoy a challenge to my faith and beliefs.
(Just try not to use too much science! I have learned from a creationist viewpoint and I am only a tenth grader, so I might not be able to keep up!)

Woah, that was powerful. I am also not trying to start a controversy but I believe I must defend my religion currently. I am a Christian, but there are many things on that list that are incorrect to my beliefs and many, many others. Yes, there are extremists, but there are from every religion. It's hard when people overgeneralize based on a few opinions. We do not put people down for their opinions. We accept opinions while also trying to help others form an open mind to our beliefs. In fact, mistakes are forgiven and we believe all life has dignity despite any choices someone may make. In the Christian religion, specifically Catholics, we accept gay people. Although gay marriage is not necessarily approved, it is because we do not support the sex between the two people. Our religion is accepting, we just do not like the act of marriage between two people of the same sex. We only support wars based on the Just War Theory (which is quite interesting and makes sense). We do not banish people, but rather as Christians we accept people into the community of God and support them because we are all made in His image and likeness. We all deserve love. I know you must have experienced some bad Christians, but most are good. These characteristics you describe are not Christians. You are not misunderstood but, in fact, the correct one. Do not be ashamed but defend your faith. Love others, have fortitude. Christians are not bad people, but there are definitely some with questionable ideas.
ReplyReligion is something complicated when you decide to step up and have an opinion of your own and such.
And even the own church members look at each other and judges one another as "false Christians".
