Until last night I don't think I ever gave this term enough thought.
But when I started thinking I realized that the word "rebound" has a deep meaning to it.
A rebound relationship can happen after any kind of relation ends, it's not just restricted to a girlfriend-boyfriend relationship. I could totally imagine someone having a rebound relationship after they've moved away from their roommate who they were close to.
A rebound is when someone tries to fill a void in their life. And it's a very natural phenomenon. Sometimes people are aware of it happening while sometimes it just happens. Some people fill that void by developing an emotional connection with someone, and sometimes they develop a physically intimate relation just to fill it. It's a good and a bad thing. Mostly bad I believe.
It's like fooling yourself, by whatever or whoever is capable of filling that empty space and distracting you. It's like oh things are good now, but deep inside you're still hurting from the loss.
From my experience, one should just take some time off and feel the pain to be able to heal. If pain is not felt and you try to run away from it, trust me, I am saying this from my own experience, you will never really get over it, you will never really move on. It's really important for a person to feel the pain to completely heal. To value life more and to be able to appreciate and value what's coming next you need to value what is gone.
I still dwell in my past, no one ever (rebounds) could fill the emotional void that was created after you were not there with me anymore. And it's been 3 years now and still your thoughts sting my heart. It still hurts.
