I can't play my guitar or sing because I'm scared someone will hear me. I really like playing guitar and singing but I'm a complete beginner and even though I want to learn so badly, I can't play when my family is home cause it's too loud. And when they're not home, I'm scared the neighbours will hear me. Do you have any advice on how to get rid of this 'fear' I guess?

Have confident . If you can't try you can't succeed . Your passion matters the most and I encourage you to play guitar and sing , best when your family is outside cause neighbors aren't that close to your house . So whatever happens don't give up on your dreams and break your fear . One day you will be famous.
ReplyI get it. I've been playing piano for years, and I still don't like practicing when my family is around. I used to try and play super-quietly so neighbors or passersby couldn't hear, but I really wasn't improving that way. Eventually, I had to realize that it didn't matter what those other people thought. I wasn't playing for them. I was doing it for myself because I love playing. At first, I would just play a few minutes. Next time, I'd play a little longer. Then longer. Nobody had a problem with it, and as I practiced, I got better. My confidence improved and, even though there can still be an awkward fear inside me when I sit down to play, once I start playing it goes away.
Besides, nobody said you had to play every note perfectly. Play with conviction, and the notes will come later!
ReplyI play guitar and sing in my room allll the time and although I do share your fear of people hearing me (meaning I won't play or sing directly in front of other humans), if it's something that really tugs at your heart strings, you gotta let go of that fear.
And your family will probably ask to hear, just tell them you're not ready yet and to let you do your own thing without them making it a big deal. Once it becomes a normal thing, they won't keep bugging you about it.
We live in a tiny apartment and I can hear my parent's convo from my living room, so we all hear each other so I couldn't ever hide it. I just sucked it up, didn't think about it too much, and learned a bunch of songs in my tiny little room.
Head up (-:
