Overcoming emotional and physical trauma can be one of the hardest things to do. Depending on the severity, you may have repressed this trauma and kept it secret throughout your life. Sooner or later you’ll need to face the trauma head-on and learn to deal with it in order to move on.
Charly Emery shares how she was able to transcend the emotional trauma that plagued her after being raped. Charly’s same mindset can be applied to overcome any level of trauma you’re struggling with too.
Charly’s main piece of advice for anyone experiencing trauma is “Don’t give it ownership over your life. Own that trauma.” If you were raped, sexually abused, emotionally abused, physically abused, or have experienced any other form of trauma, don’t give that traumatic event ownership over your life.
Accepting that the traumatic events happened and that you were not responsible for it is critical for your recovery. Resist the need to overcome the trauma on your own by seeking support from the people you trust most. A strong support system will be key in your triumph over the trauma.
