Shawn Johnson shares 7 tips that have helped him manage his insecurity, depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem. If you’re experiencing any of these feelings, try Shawn’s suggestions below and see if they work for you too.
Seek Help: You’re already taking that step right now by watching this video and reading this, so good job! It’s important that you don’t isolate yourself.
Pay Attention to Your Thoughts: The average person engages in 300-1,000 words per minute in self-talk. Everything we perceive is transformed into our thoughts. Start to pay close attention to the types of thoughts that you experience each day. Are most of your thoughts for you or against you?
Learn How to Direct Your Thoughts: Once you start paying attention to your thoughts you must learn how to question them. In Steve’s words, “What we think influences how we feel.” By questioning all thoughts, both positive and negative, you can start to shift your mindset towards more healthy thinking patterns.
Care For Your Body: The way we treat our bodies directly affects how we feel. Drugs, alcohol, caffeine, bad sleeping habits, and poor diet can all make you feel terrible. Regular exercise, proper diet, and good sleeping habits will all positively affect your mood.
Develop a Friendship With Yourself: This may sound corny, but hear us out here. It’s human nature to be critical of ourselves. The more critical you are, the worse your self esteem and confidence are going to be. You need to treat yourself the same way you would treat your best friend.
Pray and Connect Spiritually to Love: Connect to a better source of goodness, whatever that means for you.
Find a Good Self-Care Program For You: Shawn offers a great free course if you would like to try that. Novni can help direct you to the right local resource in your area as well if you’d prefer to take a different approach. Do whatever you think will be the best for you.
Try some, or all, of these tips and let us know how they worked for you. We welcome all feedback and hope you start feeling some relief soon.
There is hope for you!
