Ok so, I want to get some second opinions on this.
I've been writing a short romance story for some practice where A saves B from C who was attempting to rape them. I want to know if you think I should stop writing this because it may be insensitive or romanticing rape... I've been thinking of scrapping it but the story's coming along really well! (Note: I was never going to post it anywhere as it is just a little drabble.)

I want back my virginity
I didn't want to lose my virginity to someone I loved I just wanted to get rid of it I didn't know I would end up falling in love with the boy who I gave it to...
Look it would definitely be a different kind of story. If you think about it when it comes to sexual fantasies, people have twisted kinky ideas and fantasies about being dominated or a sense of being controlled and even raped. Observe Fifty shades of Grey and how the approach brings to light of BDSM etc...
To be honest, I wouldn't worry so much about romanticising rape. You can make it a survival story which captures the raw reality of rape, it's fears and struggles that come with it. Perhaps, twist it around of what goes on in the rapists mind and insight of their own inner battles. You can go for a saviour story where a person stops such an act using tactical skills. Like, maybe your character is in the police force or a ordinary civilian that just so happens to come across a situation by coincidence. Could make it like a cyber related crime of how rape is used as threats online,it can be educational. Just some suggestions. Highlight its sensitivity towards those who can relate but send a positive message about healing from a traumatic experience. If it's fiction just be careful of choice of words used.
Going out of the norm to give a shock effect to others can sometimes be intriguing. It depends on the kind of audiences you are trying to attract.
Can't be as twisted and disturbing like the script and movie Mother!. It had certainly left viewers shocked and confused, many hated it and loved it.
I wouldn't worry about what people might think of your story, yet. You can always ask how to approach a story without coming across as insensitive. Find someone with experience writing controversial novels or anything related. Authors, writers, poets and creative artists are out of the norm naturally and even essentric at times too. Brilliant minds even if they were looked upon as twisted, disturbed and insane.
Its okay to be a little strange and to think differently and be thinking outside the box. As long as your true intentions is not to harm.
I say try it out and see.
ReplyI used to read stories about cuckolding (I liked when the guy would grow a spine and get revenge) but, after finding out my wife was trying to put me in that exact situation I can honestly say I would never read one again. Is it incensitive? Probably. For every person that is enjoying it there is probably someone it hurts. I'm sure your story is great but if you are concerned about how people might feel about it then I would suggest trying to find a clear way to make sure that the rape in your story is definitely a negative thing, if not changing the conflict all together. Good luck and don't let this discourage you from flexing your creativity.
