I am a very emotionally unstable person, and I have been this way for a long time. When I lived at home, what helped me was my cat. She was able to sense when I needed unconditional love. Now that I'm living in a different province, and I'm living in a rental suite, pets aren't allowed. I have looked for other places to live but I can't afford to move again, and I love the place I'm in. I've been contemplating asking my landlord if I would be allowed to get a cat for mental health reasons, but I'm scared that she will assume that I have already gotten one and violated the lease agreement and kick me out. What should I do?

Hi,
Ask your landlord if you can get a cat! If your landlord says no, it's usually not the end of the world! (Many landlords really don't worry about the cat, it's the cat smells, urine, droppings, hair, etc., that worry them!
Many animal shelters love having volunteers to help spend time with orphan cats and other pets. It might be a win-win arrangement!
There are also universities, parks, and other facilities who need help with dealing with feral cats. If you can't get a cat to come to you, lots of places need help with someone caring for these feral cats living out in the semi-wild lands.
Vets and pet-holding "hotels" sometimes actually pay people to keep cats and pets company.
It's not the end of the road. Hopefully your landlord is forward minded to realize that keeping a pet in a house has more to do with the pet owner than the pet itself!
Hope it works out! Meow!!!!!
