I am 21, single, and nothing really holding me back. I am currently in a year lease that end in July. I want to travel and live life to the absolute fullest before I settle down. I need advice on how to go about that. A job, traveling, and still maintaining a place to live. Help please, open to all suggestions :)

I have some ideas but could you tell me a little more about yourself. What you enjoy. Where you would want to go. What kind of work you would like to do.................
ReplyI enjoy honestly just about everything. I like helping people, being adventurous, and just being myself. Right now I do hair, and even though I love that I don't see myself doing it forever. I have no idea where I would like to go. Open to EVERYTHING.
ReplySo I know some people who have found work with TEFL and loved it! They are a company who will certify you to teach English as a second language and then help to place you with a country that you would like to travel to and who needs English as a second language teachers. Often you can get a very good deal doing this from what I hear. My friend had his plane ticket, housing, and food paid for. He also made a decent salary. I don't think you will get rich doing this but you will be able to go all kinds of places and make money doing it. There are plenty of ESL jobs in the U.S. too. Teaching in the U.S. is a decent career. I have done it for several years now. You will not make amazing money but you will be ok. The reason I mention it is because you have summers off. During that time I do a good deal of traveling. Every school system is different. Some treat you better than others. Some give you more money. Some give you more of a summer break. You could even move around the U.S. for work. Often school systems that are desperate for teachers will offer bonuses for you to work there even for a short time.
Rhodes Scholar is another travel, work, scholarship type thing. I am not as familiar with the ins and outs of this one but I do know many people who have traveled with them and loved it! There are other contract work jobs out there. Do searches for overseas contract work or expat work.................
Work on a Cruise ship.
Join the Air Force. If you join with a degree you can go in and become an officer right away. This will increase your pay, housing, insurance, food allowance, quality of life, and safety. If you score high on your ASVAB and want a job that stays out of danger, you will most likely be able to get one. You can find all of that out before you actually sign. There are also amazing bonuses for joining sometimes. I'm talking $30,000!
I'm sure there are many more options out there. The one thing I would say for sure is do it now!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish to goodness I had listened to people who told me that! You can do boring things when you are older and settled down. Now I'm 30 and my biological clock is ticking towards it's last hours. I should have went out there and lived while I still could. If I want to do these things now I feel I am choosing between them and creating a family =( It is not fun!
Good luck and feel free to write me back. I will also add anything else that I think of later.
ReplyThank you so much for all of that! I will definitely look into all of it!
ReplyIn the short term, I've found that going to events that have to do with my interests helps me meet people who are at least some what like minded. I think learning from others who are similar to you will help you out in becoming who you want to be. They think similarly but have ideas maybe you haven't thought of yet. This could be a good way to start.
