So I've been recently failing 8th grade, my grades are at an all-time low and I have so much work that needs to be caught up. My psychiatrist started me on ADHD medicine and says that I have shown a lot of the symptoms. Does this mean I'm diagnosed? I don't want to come off as "Oh, all my work should be excused because I have this disorder!" I just want to know if I have it so that I can get the right treatment. I have such a hard time concentrating that I get really frustrated. This has been like this for a long time and I just want to do my work! Ironically, I'm writing this as I'm attempting to finish my work, I just needed a short break and wanted to relieve stress.

Is this the secret to college sucess?
I'm doing so much better in school this semester. I'm not failing any of my classes, I'm doing well on my tests and I'm not just passing by. So what changed?...

Keep it simple
A goal is an objective. An ambition is the desire to reach that goal. I have a lot of ambitions, but I never set goals. I never have enough drive or focus to ac...
Dude same, I have a giant presentation project due tomorrow worth a ton of points, but I'm on here instead because my problems are distracting so I wanted to write about them. I don't have any diagnosed disorders or anything but sometimes I wonder if I do at least low-key have something because its hard to concentrate and I sometimes feel, I guess jittery? fidgety? Idk, but being able to focus is connected to general lifestyle habits like getting enough sleep, eating right, drinking enough and exercising. I don't know what you do now, but if you're lacking in any of those three things, maybe try to get better on those. I think routines can help too, like making sure to eat actual meals instead of snacking throughout the whole day. Also, I don't know how accurate this is, but I've read before that (if this is at home you're talking about) working in places you're usually relaxing, like you're bed, isn't great for getting work done, plus apparently it ruins your relaxing space there too because you're used to working there which will make you're brain associate feelings of stress and whatnot with that area and/or position. If you're lying on the floor or your bed while working also, then you might not be able to focus as much as you would be sitting in a desk, because we're used to getting work done at a desk and lying on the floor would make it really easy to just get comfy and lazy and slack off. Also, I think if you're wearing something very uncomfortable or that you're very self-conscious in, that will likely distract you. Anyway, this got long sorry, but I hope it helps
ReplyI'm definitely going to use your tips so thank you! Some of them I have been trying to do already but its really hard to start new routines haha. I wish you luck with your presentation! ^-^
ReplyI also have ADHD (and doing this instead of homework) I was recently tested and diagnosed. Even now that I have been told by many professionals that I have ADHD sometimes I doubt I have it and think I might just be lazy and using this as an excuse. I think it's because up until now I thought I was just too lazy and or stupid to finish my work. It might just take some time to find where the boundaries are between using it as a crutch and simply excepting you have a problem that you need help with. hang in there.
ReplyIm in 8th grade also, my grades started to slip because I wasn't getting the work done. just try asking for help. try as hard as you can and if that doesn't work have other people to do it...
