This is for writers block relief purposes. I would love others perspective on this!
I've had huge personal success with meditation. I was recently asked to write my story for a website. The purpose of the writing would be to inspire others to give it a try. I hit a wall right at the beginning of my first rough draft of the piece. I began thinking of questions that people would have and I didn't have the answers. Why does it work? What made me make such a commitment to something I don't fully understand? How could I expect people to be inspired to try it if I myself can't explain how it works? So it led me to research it so I could be armed with important information that may be the deciding factor for others; why give meditation a try?
I encourage you to do your own digging if meditation interest you. For me, I was at a place where giving meditation a try was just worth it, generally speaking, for my life regardless of the science behind it.
I have been researching the science behind meditation and it turns out a lot of studies show the benefits of meditation but the reasoning behind it is more or less speculation. Being able to shift your mental focus has a direct effect on the fight or flight area of the brain. This area of the brain is associated with emotion, fear, and how we respond to stress. All this points to yes, meditation reduces stress levels and that is beneficial but it doesn't answer why. It reduces beta waves, helping one to focus on important information; Again, another potential how answer without the why.
I have come to the conclusion that I will have to write my story without being able to give any "why it works" information. I will shift my focus to the benefits alone and I don't know that it will be enough to inspire anyone. I do know how it's helped me personally and will have to rely on that for now, which is all I have been asked to do anyway. Maybe the why information is out there and I just haven't discovered it for myself yet. That very well could be the case. It has sparked my curiosity for sure and would love to hear others perspective on this. Have you tried meditation? Did (or do) you benefit from it? Why do YOU think it works if you did benefit from it?

ReplyMushrooms are better than meditation.
ReplyYes. Meditation changed my life. And I do know the why.
It helps to produce beneficial chemicals in the brain.
Seratonin- the "happy neurotransmitter "
It causes a reduction in cortisol, the stress, and age-acceleration hormone, public enemy #1. There has been shown to be a 50% reduction in cortisol levels after meditation.
It boosts DHEA, the "longevity molecule" and provides a dramatic boost in this chemical, 43.77% more than in non meditation practitioners.
GABA, the "calm chemical" (gamma amniobutyric acid). Not having enough GABA can cause anxiety, nervousness, racing thoughts, and insomnia.
Studies show a 27% increase in GABA after 60 minutes of mindful exercise.
It boosts endorphins, growth hormones for anti-aging effects. Boosts melatonin, a chemical "superhero" known to prevent cancer, boosts your immune system, and is a preventative for over 100 different diseases, and improves overall mood. This hormone has been shown to be produced more abundantly in meditation than physical exercise.
There have been all kinds of studies on the countless number of positive effects of meditation for the physical, mental, and emotional well being. Google up some scholarly articles about it, there will be plenty of information for you to use. Hope this helped!
