I'm a teacher but I'm still not regular at work. I took up education because my mother is a teacher, my aunt is a teacher and most of my relatives are teachers. When I took up this course I'm still not sure on what I want to be even until now I still don't know what I really want in life. I took up the course with the thought "Why not a grade school teacher, my mom is a teacher and it looks easy to teach children cause they are easily tricked." And now I am asking myself, "Why did I ever choose education, I don't even like kids?"
Now that I am teaching in a primary grade I realize that teaching is not for me. I tried to analyzed myself to know my strengths and weaknesses but all I see are my weaknesses and can't find my strength. I always asked myself these questions:
"If I don't want to become a teacher, then what do I want to be?"
"What are my strength?"
"Where am I good at?"
"How do I change myself?"
I am very dependent to my parents so I thought, maybe if I go somewhere far away from home maybe I can get to know myself better and I might be able to find my strength and remedy my weaknesses. But the question is where do I go? I haven't gone out of the town before and I don't know anyone who I can stay with for a while. I also don't have enough money to travel nor to rent. Staying here will only make me feel like a burden and depress. Can anyone please tell me what to do?

How do I handle this?!?
I have been fighting with my best friend since 2 months. He has started to ignore me and is filling my place with another person. And he denies this fact. I...
You could try teaching English abroad. It’s not easy to become accustomed to another culture and being on your own though. You don’t have to teach children with this, you can teach adult classes. Though please DO YOUR RESEARCH on the country you choose, the company you join, the salary, the accommodations, if you are required to teach children, how many classes you’ll teach....some companies are not so honest and up front. My experience was generally good, but I had a lot of other foreign teacher friends and their experiences were not so great at times. The experience can be sociable for some, but lonely for others. And, let me tell you, when you are working abroad and adjusting to a new culture and lifestyle, it’s hard to explore yourself and other careers, not impossible but hard. Also, a teaching degree can lead to other stuff. Think of it as a GREAT base. Many many people make career choice mistakes at the beginning. But, you have your degree in a reputable profession that tells everyone, “I’m educated”. You are a teacher, but you can go into other stuff with some further education...counseling, human resource management, a future managerial position. Or, you could ditch it all. It sounds like you are still young...what I would do is try various part-time jobs to try different things and use the extra time to research other directions and trying new hobbies that might lead to a career. Set a time limit...a year maybe? If you can, talk with your parents about these things. Make sure you constantly show them you are exploring different options. Ask yourself what makes you happy. Money, a high-paced environment, a relaxed atmosphere, a flexible schedule, etc. But, it’s great that you ask yourself what your strengths are. It sounds like you are going in the right direction. And, it’s not like you can’t find another teaching job ever again if things don’t work out. Teaching will always be there for you. Good luck, don’t be so hard on yourself, and I hope this helps.
ReplyYou can have as many different careers and jobs as you like. Life is a journey not a destination so even your next job doesn't have to be your last. Your parents seem to have too much influence on you. It's up to you to make up your own mind. Can you get a transfer to another town or city and take out a loan or borrow money from your parents to trave and settle there? If so you will be away from them in a different place still teaching but take time to think of what to do for your next job. You can write a list of career choices and jobs and cross off the ones you think you wouldn't do. Then tick off the ones you would probably do and decide on one of them. Then move forward and don't tell your parents about this otherwise they might persuade you to keep teaching or do something else you don't like. Very good luck for your future.
