Well, I've always had difficulty with maintaining a regular job. The pressure of it all just never sat too well with me.
So one of the only things I've done and actually enjoyed was cooking. Now that doesn't earn income on it's own, but I do plan on making a YouTube channel.
I follow other YouTube cooking channels like Binging with Babish, Food Wishes and Joshus Weissman.
One of the most common things I see is extravagant ingredients. Those are gonna be a no no for me. I want to make fun videos that ANYONE can follow, even college students drowning in debt.
So no black truffle or exotic ingredients. Just very basic stuff you can find at your local grocer and convenience stores.
I may dab into a bit of expensive food, but it won't be a every other video thing. Kind of rounding out my own niche in the cooking community on YouTube.
I've already got a computer, so the most expensive part of it is already out of the way. If we do end up getting a second stimulus check, that will be used to grab some basic stuff like a stand mixer (though I will be doing breads on video by hand, just in case my audience doesn't have one), a nice pots/pan set, a portable stovetop and a few other essentials like a thermometer, ladles, measuring cups, masonry jars and some new knives and silverware.
Essentially, I want to have a decent setup for starting this out and expand into new dishes as my channel grows.
I've got a few video ideas for some very basic stuff you can make at home, literally right now, that wouldn't come close to breaking your bank.
We're talking bread, ricotta cheese, flatbread (made from ramen). Very simple, easy stuff that is just going to take a bit of elbow grease and a little bit of cash.
Then, expand dishes from these starting points. Kind of like... I know what I'm gonna name my channel!
