Cyberbullying, a very common topic right. Everyone that uses social media would have definitely heard this term. As a Y-generation youth, my life revolves around the internet especially during this pandemic where we are forced to embrace digitalisation.
When I read articles about cyberbullying, my thoughts straight go to suicide or panic attacks. I seriously thought these are the symptoms of people who suffer from online bullying until I experienced it recently.
Now that I experienced it, I realised that some do not even realise that they are getting bullied and the offenders do not consider that their actions as cyberbullying. For something that I thought I know, I knew very little.
Let me share what happened to me. Recently, I commented under a post that actually degraded my learning institution and defamed one of the student leaders. Usually, I do not pay any attention to such posts as the post was made on an Instagram page which serves as an entertainment platform. This post made me mad because they were targeting and defaming the person with unverified claims made by an unnamed 2nd party.
As I wanted to act like a rationalized person and maybe I wanted to be the hero of the damned story, I actually commented that there is no point in defaming someone as the person who posted the post is a 3rd party who has nothing to do with the issue or the claimed misuse of power.
Unknown to my grey matter, I allowed them to bully me. They used my comment in a new post without sensor-ing my profile name. The post certainly smells nasty, derogatory, and defaming. The post has reduced me into a nobody who deserves public humiliation because I voiced out; because I stand with the minority.
Now, I get anxious every time someone tags my name, and every time I get a request from a stranger. I have lost my faith and my confidence, I do not want to talk to anyone and share my thought aloud in social media platforms because the past and the future prospects haunt me.
Some people think that they are just seekers because they seek the guilty ones online and they have a huge target audience. The thing is THEY ARE NOT, THEY ARE CYBER BULLIES. Stop defaming people when you have nothing to do with the issue. You are an unrelated variable in the issue. It's like using a differentiation formula in a simple addition math question.
Internal affairs of an institution do not need to bring to light by a 3rd party that is unrelated to the institution. Youths need to realise the limitations and reflect on the consequences of their actions. Having social media does not give anyone the privilege to hate speech someone.

I completely agree on Roblox people were grouping up on someone who did nothing and one of the people in the group actually was the one who started it and yelled at the victim and said "GO DIE" before and no one cared and then that person suddenly started bullying the victim I tried to stop them but they completely ignored me those fuckers...
ReplyIt's horrifying. Today I too felt the same thing. It's dangerous to comment anywhere these days. Be it even youtube. People straightaway oppose you, call you names, say something weird and unrelated and defame the person. I read webcomics and that's least toxic place. Few Creators were on break since months and comments were like "did he passed away..I'm concerned", "rip creator" and things like that. When I said "are you for real. Delete that it's rude and disrespectful" I got dislikes lots of dislikes. I don't understand where humanity has come now. It's terrifying and frightening that people are so absorbed in hating others and swearing so much. I've never been on social media but when I hear such cyberbullying I can't help but think that this social media needs a reset.
