My Unsent Letter

Dear Neighbors,

I hate you. I hate every single one of you.

Nine months ago I never would have said that. Nine months ago if someone had asked me what I thought of my neighbors, I would have said that you were all laid back, we all got along well, and there weren't any problems.

That was before the pandemic. Before I found out that you are selfish assholes with no compassion. Before I found out that you care so little about those around you that you will not wear masks in the common areas. You literally don't care if you kill people. I'm going to say it just that way, because it's the truth. You don't care if you transmit a virus that has killed more than a quarter of a million people in this country because you can't wear a mask for the two minutes you are in the hallway or on the elevator.

I'm medically high-risk. I've spent most of the last year trying really hard to stay alive by staying home. I have spent every holiday alone to stay safe. And yet every time I do so much as venture outside my apartment to check my mail, I have to worry about you selfish, malicious fuckfaces. Because you'll come right up to me without masks. You'll use the elevator without masks.

I hate you. I hate that people like you are part of the reason this virus has spread so much. I hate that you live here. I hate that you have made my apartment building unsafe. I hate that there's apparently nothing that can be done to make you comply with the simple directive NOT TO KILL OTHER PEOPLE.

Go fuck yourselves. Take those Christmas wreaths off your doors because you don't actually believe in anything to do with Christmas if you don't think you have a responsibility to those around you in this simple way. You are horrible excuses for human beings.
