This is quite the unusual message to see on a site like novni but I’m in a desperate situation.
In the UK, class action lawsuits are referred to as group litigation orders.
This legal action has been taken against my mother (and her friend) from a religious organisation, who is claiming that the defendant has done fraud amounting up to £15k.
Knowing the actions of my mother over the course of the entire pandemic, and even before, I know she had only attended group gatherings held by the church a few times, and personally knows the leader.
This very same leader is now filing this case against her. I couldn’t wrap my head around it at first, because my mother has absolutely nothing to do with the organisation apart from being a “plus one” to these events.
She was neither financially involved in anything regarding the group, and was more of a friend rather than anything else.
If anyone could share their knowledge, their take, their advice, or even redirect me somewhere else I would be grateful.
I’ve directed my mother to some services that may provide help, but as a secondary student there is only so much I can understand and help with. I have had no clue of this type of proceeding until today, I would be glad to talk to anyone—maybe even someone as clueless as me—concerning this.
It’s unlikely that I’d stumble across a judge to a law student on this site, but I’d take the odds.

Has your mum got a lawyer? Or someone with legal authority to talk to? Has she tried phoning citizen advice...? Theyre generally who i would go to for everything just to be on the safe side
