I don't normally write on weekends but it's been a bit since my last entry. I'm going to start moving my entries to Thursdays.
As for right now, Perserverance is getting ready to finally launch Ingenuity. The flight path for Ingenuity will get us some readings on the delta after it leaves the helipad. Whereas Perserverance will continue on it's way to collect samples, with a restricted mission on it's way to me.
My potato sprouts are doing pretty good, they've begun to branch out so that's very promising. I'm still singing to them for 15 minutes every day.
One thing I can say is Martian soil doesn't retain moisture quite as well so I've had to have the hydroponics systems running a bit more frequently. I believe it has something to do with the coarseness of the soil, it's much more dry and brittle than that of earth's.
We also got some verification of this from Curiousity and it's drilling mission. Some of the photos almost look like water had spilt onto the surface but unfortunately it was just the shadow of Curiosity.
Those photos are available to the public on the NASA website as well. You can see for yourself, what I'm talking about. The soil doesn't hold shape very well and in most cases is almost sand like in texture.
I did have a minor issue with comms when trying to reestablish connection, something about the dust particles in the atmosphere were dilating signal strength for a few hours.
Other than that, everything is going smoothly. There were some concerns with Perserverance last week when it started picking up a grinding noise after releasing the safety hatch for the sample compartment but has seemed to have gone away. Initial reports suggest some debris may have gotten into one of the joints.
For Mars One, this is Captain Johnson signing off
