My friend attempted suicide and I'm still stuck on the day she could have died even though she's getting help

My friend had a suicide attempt last Friday. She called another friend for help when she was about to jump off the bridge near our school. The other friend and I got the school counselor and we all went to the bridge. Luckily, a police officer had seen my friend and helped her, but for a moment, when we didn't know that, me and my other friend had to stand on that bridge while the counselor checked the highway below.
I am still in shock, I'm kind of traumatized. The girl who went to the bridge and the other two people my friend texted for help before her attempt are feeling the same as me. We're numb, nothing feels really real. Emotions are weird and I'm stuck in that moment on the bridge when I didn't know if she was dead. We know she's safe and getting help, and people keep telling us that, but we can't get our brains to fully believe it. People don't understand this and keep reassuring us that she's okay when we're still stuck on Friday.
What do I do? It hurts so bad and I just want to be there for her. We're only 15 and the girl who attempted suicide is only 14... I don't know how to handle this.

That is such a heavy thing you are carrying. I'm so sorry this happened to you, this type of situation can cause great trauma. Please seek some comfort/guidance from your counsellor. Your school should be providing counselling/therapy to everyone involved!
ReplyYeah, we got some help from the school. I'm having an easier time, but it's because I'm having difficulty remembering what happened. My brain does this when I can no longer operate, I start having mild memory loss. Not exactly a healthy thing, but it's better than the flashbacks.
