Therapy?
That is what’s on my mind.
Tonight my mum asked me, not for the first time, if there was “anything we can do” about my - talking to people and communication in general- issues. I played dumb as usual and asked “like what?” and, as she has before, she suggested maybe seeing a ‘psychologist’ (which always makes me laugh anyway because I’m not sure if you can call all psychologists, therapists).
- so a therapist. Going to therapy-
- I answered the same way I do every time she’s brought it up:
‘Talk to a therapist? When my entire issue is struggling to talk- I wouldn’t be able to talk. Sounds a bit counterproductive to me’
To which we both laugh and move on till the next time it’s mentioned. Because what else can you do? It’s my default.
Really I’m not sure why I don’t want to go to therapy- I mean I am 100% someone who thinks everyone would benefit from some form of therapy because aren’t we all just slightly fucked up BUT… me? I don’t need therapising (jury’s out on that being an actual word..). It would just be a waste of their time, and take time away from people who really need the help. I mean- come on. How is TALKING to a therapist going to help me talk?
The very thought of going is terrifying and I’m already picturing how insanely awkward and uncomfortable it would be.
Buttt maybe I would benefit from it.
My mum said maybe they could hypnotise me - ha, yea, then all my problems really would be solved. Just get them to change all the bad bits of myself. Mutilate my personality and make life easier.
So, I don’t know- should I go? Or am I literally just like every average awkward teenager with no real problems whose just being overly dramatic about nothing. I don’t know.

You should go. Because you are not hopeless at all. You have a future and you are important. You deserve healing and compassion and understanding just as much as others do.
ReplyMaybe you have a friend whose been there and can spell it out for you, maybe even hold your hand—literally.
Replyyou should try, and if you feel like its not working u could don't go anymore. the therapyst will make the space confortable to you to talk, if in some moment you dont want to or u just feel you cant, you dont have to, but im sure you'r going to achieve it. some people say that to really solve a problem u have to go to the root, go directly to it.
