I have OCD and these days it's getting harder to deal with. It's interfering with my work, relationships, and whenever I finally get a bit of downtime, it's interrupted by the need to wash my hands, make sure all my doors are locked, recite the time and the battery of my phone before it changes, adjust the curtains, etc. I feel like my brain is also making me do more "new" things than before. For example, my OCD wasn't based around cleanliness before but now I compulsively wash my hands, use hand sanitizer, won't touch certain things, etc. I'm not on any medications. Is there any way to ease this even a little bit? Any help is greatly appreciated!

This sounds like the washing of your hands and using sanitizer is something everyone is supposed to do because of covid. Sorry but I can't help.
ReplyI totally understand you - I feel like from time to time more and more compulsions develop instead of disappearing… maybe a therapist could help? what helps me, is being distracted - when I’m out with people or when someone visits me I sometimes forget about some of my ocd thoughts which easens it a bit. Have you talked to persons that are close to you yet? I haven’t, but it might help. Also, try to eliminate things in your life that cause you stress. E.g. I was so scared to fail my driver‘s test - my ocd told me: if you don’t that or that or that… you‘ll fail it… - when I passed my drivers test the pressure the ocd put on me reduced a bit. Also - step by step. don’t leave out a whole compulsive action.. try to minimize small parts of it - E.g. use less water or less soap when washing your hands..maybe you get to leave it out completely at some point. One last weird but maybe helpful tip - get rid of your triggers - take off the curtains, throw away the hand sanitizer.
I hope i could help a little bit <3
Take care & I’d love to hear an answer from you!
