This was when I was 13. Currently I’m 21. I have always felt less than my siblings. My birthday falls in January and it’s right after the holidays meaning we have less money. I felt jealous of my siblings because on their 13th birthday they got something pricey. My older brother got a Game Boy Advance SP, my older sister got an IPod nano, and my younger sister just last year got a fujifilm instax mini camera. All I got was a keychain and $20. I just remembered saying thank you and left to go do homework in my room and cried. I now understand that my parents didn’t have much money after the holidays but that broke me. The only time that it was(will be) kind of equal is for our 15th birthday we have the choice to get $1000 or a quince party. The reason I say kind of equal is because by brother only got the $1000 and didn’t have the choice because according to my parents technically quinces are for girls. But no of my sisters or I want one and we all picked the $1000. My younger sister already decided on the $1000

I am sorry that you didn't get much for your birthday. Your parents should budget their money in a better way.
Reply$1000 is far too much to give to a 15 year old!
ReplyI’m Mexican and a 15th birthday day is such a big deal in our culture. It basically our transition from girlhood (childhood) to womanhood. These parties cost about $5k to $20k depending how big you want it. This will include venue, food, rental tables & chairs, music, cake, photographs, dress, dance practice for the damas & chambelánes, the last doll, pay to have a mass service, and many more things go into planning a 15th birthday. I understand how $1000 is too much but it was given to us in a debit card that is connected to my parents account so they can see how much money was in the card that was given to us. My dad decided that this way was fair as we decided not to have a big party that we all get the $1000. Plus I think it took me about 2 years to actually spend it all.
