after talking to my psych doctor I’ll be taking new meds starting tomorrow (antidepressant and anxiolytic meds). they’ve let me know that I should not turn to substance abuse which for me is smoking mary jane.
but in my experience of taking other drugs, mary jane is the only thing that stops my mind from focusing on the bad thoughts I do have, so I’ll no longer have that relief.
does anyone else take these form of drugs and if so do you risk the complications to get peace of mind or how do you find ways of relief without turning to drugs?

Faking it
I feel as though my life is not quite a lie but holds so many little secrets. I paint on a smile while I’m boasted by you. You look at me as though I’m this...

I need encouragement
I’ve never felt this depressed in my life. I’ve been depressed on and off my whole life. At the age of 10, I was threatened to be killed with a knife. Tha...
not your question but the way to healing is facing your bad thoughts head on and dealing with your feelings enough so they don’t pop up at all—with a trained therapist.
ReplyGreat question. I don't smoke mj but I have a history of "self medication" with everything from herbal teas to opioids. And there's also the prescribed stuff (antidepressants and anxiolytics also).
The WORST were the antidepressants. Made me suicidally paranoid in the worst way. If your doc prescribed SSRI antidepressants (Zoloft, Paxil, Lexapro, Prozac, etc) then please be careful and at the first sign of trouble discontune. If you ask me SSRI drugs make things 10x worse and every other SSRI users I've talked to agreed with me.
For anxiety I was given xanax which literally didn't do a thing so I stopped that too.
So on to your question, other ways to deal with it... I had some (very) limited success with caffeine, either coffee or pills, but while it may boost you out of depression, as you might guess it also boosts anxiety. So I would try to bring it down with natural relaxants like chamomille tea, occasionally benadryl (otc sleeping pills). Then there's the standard fresh air, exercise, yada yada, but I'm guessing you've already tried that if you've reached this point. Those things help marginally, but they don't cure depression.
One thing that helped tons was I went on a juice fast for a week.
Other than that, honestly I'm considering mary jane myself because it's the only common treatment I haven't tried. Some depressed friends have suggested it... but I'm thinking if it works then why are they still depressed lol. Anyways I hope you find something that works. To sum up: watch out for SSRI drugs, those things should be illegal.
ReplyI have been on a medication called Trazadone for the last three years. It is an antidepressant prescribed by my doctor after my younger brother died while away in the military. The dosage is low and resolves more to deal with my anxiety at night than any actual depression. Basically, I take it at bedtime to help me relax and sleep because nighttime is when I do all of my worst thinking.
To answer your question: No, I don't risk the usage by adding additional drugs to the mix. To be fair, my medication works for me well enough that I don't require anything else to ease the anxiety. It's important to remember that a cocktail of drugs can affect everyone differently, and sometimes the combination can be dangerous. I can't tell you what you should do, but I can suggest trying to take the medication prescribed by your doctor as intended without the help of mary jane. Hopefully, the meds will work effectively for you and you won't need to fight the argument of whether or not to add other drugs. If they don't work, you can always talk to your doctor about adjusting the dosage or switching to a different, more effective medication all together.
ReplyI indulge in MJ myself, but I'm learning to not abuse it anymore. It numbs the pain and quiets your thoughts but you can't run from yourself. You really have to sit with those thoughts/feeling and get to the bottom of it to heal or you'll be running in circles
ReplyI have been on medication for quite some time now, it is something that helps me on going through all the shit that I am experiencing so I feel you when you said that you are taking substances to feel at ease. But one thing that I learned throughout my journey that you need to have people that you can trust and people that you can talk to. I know that in situations like this you're the only one who can solve your problems but it will take a toll on you and having people you can comfortably let your frustrations out is really a great help.
