Can you see?

Can you see through this mask

That hides my battered,

Shattered spirit?

Pushing and pushing through this pain

I feel transparent

As if you could walk right through me

Here I thought I was at my peak

But all I feel is fatigue

Completely drained

And utterly strained

They say “You’re too hard on yourself”

They say “Be patient with yourself”

How can I be patient

With the weight of mind

Chaining me down

Corroding my soul

Here I thought I was at my peak

Broken and defeated

I laugh and say I’m pathetic

Knowing that surely

Anyone could do better

Better than I

As my will crumbles

So too does this mask

Slowly revealing

This battered, shattered spirit
