Peppermint tea tastes like an eating disorder. It smells like distress and sadness. Its warmth feels like the deep coldness that was once in my bones. I may no longer be as sick as I was, but with all the little things, it comes back to me. And so, it will never leave.

:(. I am so sorry you have gone through this. You do not have to be stuck with it forever. Sending love.

ReplyThis is so brilliantly written. Anyone who's had an eating disorder knows exactly what you mean. For me it's black coffee with cinnamon and nutmeg. I remember those miserable days drinking/eating nothing but that all day. And even now that I'm (sorta) recovered, the taste takes me right back to that state of mind. I wonder if it means we never truly recover. The potential to relapse is always lurking like a memory.
ReplyReading this and the comments makes me so sad. Fuck eating disorders.
