I’m not mormon but used to be until I went to college, but everyone else in my family is mormon. I have a 16 year old sister who is engaged to an 18 year old BYU student and they are getting married and sealed at the temple on the 23rd. Cale (my sister’s fiancé) abuses her and is a terrible influence. I’ve warned her many times about this guy she’s marrying in a few weeks but she’s calling me every name under the sun because I want to break up what God had joined. She truly believes it’s her purpose to be a meek housewife and mother of their children and that her husband rules over her and is the head of the house. She believes that God wants them to be one flesh in marriage. I miss the old Brooklynn that was energetic and happy. Now she’s super submissive and meek, especially around her fiancé. She wants to be married to him forever because you can’t separate what God joins and because God said it’s the right thing for Cale and Brooklyn to be sealed for eternity. I’m scared for her what do I do?

To the Mormon Church

honestly your sister is being awful towards you, you're doing the best you can and helping her but for some reason she doesn't care to understand. You should scare her, tell her that you won't even come to her wedding or say that you'll no longer help her when things go down, tell her you've helped her enough and if she can't seem to understand then you will no longer be there for her. It's not that you want to break up what God has joined, God is putting her through a challenge seeing if she can get through it alone, clearly she cannot and you need to teach her. And maybe tell her that the wedding is off because your sister shouldn't be in this type of relationship, if she calls this love, I feel sympathy towards her, she must've not felt what love was. And for you since you're older be the older sister you are, tell your parents, your sister is still 16 she has to listen to your parents. Your sister needs a slap to reality and understands what she really wants, she's still so young, and shouldn't be stuck in a relationship that'll turn out to be an awful disaster, it's never too late to help her.
