Why are the older generations always feeding us with this crap: "enjoy your life while you can..., you don't have to worry about anything, you're not paying for your food, you're not paying for your living..., I would do anything to have it as easy as you have it, enjoy it while you can..."
And then you ask them if they would return to their teens if they could and they shut up pretty quickly. Because they wouldn't want to go through all these struggles again, but they won't admit it. Saying that if you have a roof to live under and food on your table you have everything to survive. Technically yes, but there's a big difference between surviving and living. Living to the fullest.
Maybe our problems don't resolve around taxes, paying for rents or looking for jobs, it doesn't mean we aren't going through a lot.
On one side they tell you not to worry about picking the right college, because you can always change your course along the way, but then they won't stop talking about how expensive education is these days and that you better choose wisely what you want to do every day for the rest of your life. Just like they did. Because they don't know anything else.
Starting a conversation about mental health is a big taboo most of the time. "You are fine, you are overreacting, it's all because of that phone of yours which is teaching you bullshits." It's always the phone that is to blame. Never their disinterest, stressfull environment in school or the struggles we have to go through everyday because we can't fit, we don't know who we are or where we want to get in life. Therapy is for the crazy ones and we can not risk our reputation, therefore let's pretend the problem does not exist.
We are slowly losing ourselves because we don't get the appreciation we need to thrive. We are binded by prejudices that are no longer true and by overly high expectations. We are tired of just surviving. We are tired of tolerating the mental abuse we are facing in school every day, because school is important, teachers are perfect and you should keep your mouth shut about your pain. We are tired about being treated like something less, like children, but expected to behave like adults. We are tired of feeling worthless and useless. We want this to end. And we want support, because what we are coming through is hard.

The Beauty, who was a Beast!
to others, she is a beast, to the mirror, she is a monster, and in her mind, she thinks that no one will ever love her. for it remains the same every day,...
Did it ever occur to you that people who are older than you have experienced things that you might not have yet? So it might pay to listen to what they have to say to keep from repeating and or making mistakes like they did. Its perfectly ok in my opinion to talk about mental health. Yes depression anxiety etc is real. I think they're trying to tell you enjoy your teen years because after that life gets harder and less simple. You have to work a 40 hour plus job to survive, a job you most likely won't like, pay bills, etc. And if you don't go to college your job pickings are slim. And you can't get any of your years back. So really each side needs to listen to each other to understand both sets of feelings.
ReplyAnd physical health gets worse the older you get.
ReplyI went through hell at school so I can empathize about that but otherwise the individual who has already replied to you has said it all really. Life doesn’t get easier once you’re an adult, young people think that everything suddenly becomes a great deal better but that’s not reality at all. You might have a different set of problems to when you were young but they’re far more serious and intense
