I'm genuinely sick and tired and I'm so unsure if its just MY ma who's so embarrassed of such normal things like periods happening. I know what I'm complaining about doesn't seem as major compared to what other people post on here but honestly I just want an answer. Is everyone's ma like this or is it just mine? She's telling me to be afraid of anyone knowing I'm on my period, not mentioning it to my dad or brothers even if they ask or if I'm feeling ill because of my period. LIKE WHAT DO U WANT ME TO DO WHEN THEY ASK?? Currently on such a heavy flow that I feel disgusting and uncomfortable so i haven't attended school for a bit, and then my ma has the decency to tell me that I should just never go back to school and forget about even becoming anything in the future. LIKE UR THE ONLYY PERSON IN THIS STUPID HOUSEHOLD WHO KNOWS WHAT IM DEALING W RN, AND UR TRYNA GUILT TRIP ME W MY EDUCATION?? I literally worked my ass off completing work from home but ofc she assumes i sat the whole day doing nothing. I dont get whats so embarrassing about having periods, why aren't they normalised? Atleast why aren't they normalised in my household? Even buying pads we have to hide them, just so no one knows what we've bought LIKE ITS SUCH A NORMAL THING TO GO THRU YET WE'RE HERE CONCEALING IT AS IF IT NEVER HAPPENS. I'm not saying I wanna be sooo open about it, but atleast not hiding my sanitary products, and being able to tell someone I'm on my period when they ask why I'm not praying/feeling well is the bare minimum I wanna be able to do.

period problems
so i’ve had my period about a year and i’m not monthly yet right so idk when it’ll start bc i’m not monthly and it’ll take abt 2 years. idk what to do...
while u with ur own problem but we still feel like we were dealing with so many idiots in this world. We feel like we want to burnt them all off with a flamethrower and see them rotten in front of our eyes.
ReplyI think its just the way my ma was raised, social norms at the time
ReplyInsha'allah may allah make this easier for you but from my experience most arab mom's do have weird tendencies so I got nothing to help besides dua
ReplyIt's a normal female biological function. Nothing to be embarrassed about. Try not to do the third world bullshit of missing your education because of menstruation. You're going to be having periods for decades. If you were to use a mooncup or tampons, you wouldn't feel disgusting.
ReplyI'm so uncomfortable with tampons and moon cups they aren't an option for me
ReplyYou have access to the Internet. Buy a Mooncup on Amazon or some tampons. Why would you choose to sit in a bloody sanitary pad when you can wear internal protection which is more hygienic. I do not want excuses about it taking away your virginity bullshit. It doesn't. This is a female issue. It's nothing to do with culture which men define. Don't tell me some crap about your culture not accepting internal protection. This is your health and wellbeing. Muslim society needs to grow the fuck up and get an education.
Reply@ the fella talking about buying Mooncup on Amazon etc, this might be a simple country difference thing, but we dunno where the OP lives & at least in my country, it's completely normal for women here to use pads & it's rare for any store to sell any tampons and menstrual cups. So I wouldn't judge so hard about the choice of pads/cups/tampons. It's not the issue being talked about anyway.
Regarding having menstruation. Again I dunno where you're from, but I'm from Indonesia with muslim family & lotsa muslim people here, we were taught about menstruation in late elementary & middle school biology class. It is a natural biological process.
I'm very sorry that you live in an overly conservative family (country?) who hold onto unreasonable shame about normal biology that isn't even about sex. I'm not sure what kind of advice to give, but I can say that you're right to think of the shame as unnecessary and I wish you well.
ReplyThank u!! Also yeah about the person who keeps suggesting mooncups/tampons I would've wore them if I were comfortable with them but I'm not, soooo sticking to pads 🤞
ReplyRight, I do have access to the Internet and all but my family ALWAYS checks with me before I buy anything + over here its always so overpriced online especially with sanitary products already being expensive, and I'm really NOT comfortable with having anything stuck up there during my period so like tampons and mooncups really aren't an option for me
ReplyHonestly I think it's more of your mom's culture and personality. My mom's really chill about periods and stuff , even my little brother knows. My uncle who's an aalim is chill about it too. Tell her from a religious aspect that you don't need to hide it. If they were Haram to talk about they wouldn't be mentioned in the Quran explicitly and women wouldn't be told not to do obvious acts of worship.
ReplyRight, I've told her various times but yeah now that I think of it I think its just part of her culture.
