Everyone was already in a bad mood, but I made it worse. I decided I wanted to eat a certain dish that’s best with rice. My sister finished it this morning, therefore I decided to make some more. My parents, for some reason, never taught me how to make it (despite the fact that I’m Asian). I asked my mother to show me how to make it, and she helped me with the first bit before sitting back on the couch. I had a bowl of rice and water, but I wasn’t sure what exactly to do with it. The living room wasn’t far, so I asked from a distance what to do next. My mother said to put it in, but I thought she said to pour it. I was confused because it looked like you weren’t supposed to. There was some sort of metal inside. I asked a few times if I was supposed to pour it in and she said yes. I think she thought I said “put”.
I hesitantly poured the rice in. I watched water pool around the rice maker. That was when I realized that I made a mistake, but I couldn’t turn back. I told my parents and they were definitely not happy. The counter was covered in water that got all on the floor and cabinets. My mother quickly cleaned the rice cooker and my father cleaned the water. He is very uptight and scolded me the entire time. He went on about all the stuff he had to dry, how everything was soaked down, how much they’ll have to spend on a new rice cooker if I broke it, how I need to think, etc. I tried to help clean up, but I was holding back tears. I hate making mistakes.
