Starting a new job that requires social skills & department know-how. It's a job that I have to undertake out of compulsion, rather than choice. Everyone in the field says the 6 weeks+ training is mostly irrelevant, you learn on the job. All of a sudden, I've been told I start the actual role in two days, instead of the original plan of next week. I feel unprepared, how to do the job well AND display good social skills. Socialising hasn't come to me naturally, I've had to work on it, and whilst there is improvement, it is nowhere near the basic level for most people. Outside work, I'm also drowned in projects that I started when I felt fine, but now I'm in a not-so-good place yet drowned in unfinished work which I'm answerable for, plus burdened with a 9-5 job that doesn't give me enough time to finish these, relax & work on my skills and knowledge for the job
Any suggestions to remove so much pressure? Social Skills normally can't be learned overnight and I have 2 days to do more theoretical training on the job, come home and work on my projects, give time to family etc. It feels too much

Don't take on so much. Let something you are doing go.
ReplyYou are right, Thank You
ReplyI like the comment from other - about letting some things go. Also, "Sink or swim" comes to mind, not to sound harsh. I actually don't fully know how to explain that, other than the basic training we've had will kick in, sort of like adrenaline rush, and we'll manage, since "sinking" is not an option. Best of luck.
Courtesy notice: the following includes a reference to a book that contains writings over 2000 years old which are mostly parables about human nature, both vile human nature as well as moral human nature, parables that are meant to teach us to learn and grow, including the teachings of Christ Jesus. No religion required, and better yet: no public displays of devotion required, although the former and latter are admirable if practiced freely out of one's own free will and without the threat of being beheaded. Some bullies will label this "trolling", so "change the channel" now if of no interest to you.
1 Thessalonians 5:11
Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
Mark 12:28-31
And Christ Jesus said the 2 greatest commandments are:
Love God first and foremost.
Love your fellow-being as you love yourself.
From following or not following these, all good or evil cascades, respectively.
Love...that powerful, invisible, intangible force that cannot be denied; even atheists live and die by it.
Mary, Mother of Christ, intercede for us with your prayers, now, and always.
