"I like white and baby blue nails."
I looked down at my maroon shade in shame. Of course he does. I know the types of girls who wear those shades. They are the clean girls who wear the same cookie cutter clothes: plain colored crop top tank tops, faded and ripped boyfriend jeans, white sneakers (interchangeable with brown faux leather sandals), cross body bag, curly medium length hair. There's nothing different about them. They are Xerox copy after Xerox copy until they blur together as one. Why anyone would be drawn to such a boring tribe is beyond me. This struck me as a predictable surprise. For an art design student, I expected more from him and yet, of course he liked the Xeroxed white and baby blue nails.
I looked up from my nails and he told me, "But your maroon is hot, too." I always come in second (or in this case, third) place. I will never be the front runner. I will never be different enough in the good way. Somewhere, someone loves dark nail polish. Somewhere, someone desires a free spirited woman. Somewhere, someone is thinking to themselves, "I saw this girl once and man, I wish I would have talked to her. I really liked that maroon color on her."

Hell yes to this.
ReplyI, for one hate white nails, and have a great disdain for Xeroxed women. Long live the maroon.
