One thing that really makes me hate my generation is how much we look over serious mental health issues in slang.
Things like, "I'm so OCD." "I'm so depressed right now." "I'm literally going to have a panic attack." "I'm going to kill myself, this is so boring." "Sorry, I'm acting so autistic, tee-hee." "Lol, I guess I have ADHD." "I'm such an insomniac, I barely got any sleep last night."
I'm clinically depressed, have panic disorder, have anxiety, and ADD. I also have severe trouble sleeping and take sleep labs regularly. I self harm frequently. My therapist says I also probably have OCD. I've been taking meds since the age of 10. It really pisses me off when I hear people with perfect mental health and lives say stuff like that. I mean, I get if you accidentally say it once or twice but if you're not clinically diagnosed or are showing symptoms it kind of dilutes the meaning. I also get that people have hidden issues but if you're saying this all the time please stop it.
Me and this one girl in my class were talking and we got to the topic of feelings and stuff. I said, "Oh, I have depression." And she said, "Doesn't everybody?" And I said "No, I have horrible clinical depression." "Ha, I'm like that sometimes too. Life goes on." ????????????
I'm not trying to say, "Woe is me!" But you can say, "sad" instead of "depressed" and "nervous" instead of, "having a panic attack" and "tidy or neat" instead of "OCD" and "energetic" instead of, "ADHD".
Because these are real disorders that people struggle with every day. I cry and panic when something is in the wrong place. It takes me hours to calm down. I don't like life or humanity anymore. I just want to fall into someone. It takes me two hours to get ready in the morning because I spend up to thirty minutes staring at the wall and thinking about things I've done wrong.
I'm aware I have a lot physically in this life but my brain is a mess.
Anyways, love you all! <3
