Tenth Grade Journal - Entry Four

My friend got beat up because of me. This isn't going to be a very long entry because I spent all day studying, but I'll inform you about the big thing that happened today.

So, Peyton (remember her from the last entry?) was having a one-sided argument with some other girl named Shanyia I don't really know. She accused Peyton of trying to get with her boyfriend, Logan. Peyton didn't try to argue because she knew it was bullshit. She was partnered with him in a project in one of her classes (not by choice) and now everyone is accusing her of, "being too friendly" to him. She doesn't even like him as a friend. Let alone trying to steal him.

Peyton would NEVER try to do something like that. She was recently cheated on by her boyfriend and she said she wouldn't wish it on anyone. She has a heart of gold and tries to joke around with everyone and just has a light personality. I love her so much and she's a person I strive to be like.

I've heard rumors around that Shamyia was planning to fight her. This rumor has been going around for a week so Peyton wasn't scared anymore. She just said, "If she tries to punch me, I'm not fighting back. It's her fault that she will get suspended."

Today I was walking to the bathroom and there wasn't anyone in the hallway. I heard Logan's voice so I hid behind a pillar because he's mean to me. He was walking with Shamyia and saying, "Please don't do it. You'll get suspended. Please don't. It's not worth it. I'm not happy either but you can't do this. I hate her, too, but you can't do this." And that was the only logical thing I've ever heard come out of his mouth.

I peeked around the corner and saw her shaking her head at him. They walked away and I didn't tell anyone, though I knew what was about to happen.

Peyton is short, but athletic and strong. She has a muscular build, but isn't very stocky. She's never fought someone before, and I knew she could fight Shamyia. But she swore she wouldn't. Shamyia is way taller than her, but has a curvier build and I doubt has much muscle.

Peyton was in my last class of the day and she asked me, "Hey, can you walk with me to the busses?" I said, "No, sorry. I have to go drop something off." I should have walked with her.

When I was on my way to my bus I walked past the girls bathroom and everyone in that hallway was freaking out and stampeding. I asked people in the crowd, "What's going on?" As it seemed something crazy was happening. The only thing I heard people yelling was, "Peyton is on the ground!" "Someone get the nurse!" "Shamyia beat her ass!" "She has a nosebleed!"

On the bus I later found out that Peyton went to the bathroom to wash her hands and Shamyia snuck up behind her and attacked her without mercy. But Peyton didn't fight back. The problem is the bathroom is the only place with no cameras. So there was no proof.

If I had walked with her that wouldn't have happened. I don't know what happened to them but I know that I won't be seeing either for a while. I could have protected her.
