Have you ever wondered how the food you eat affects the way you feel? Recent studies in nutritional psychiatry indicate that your diet directly impacts your mental health. Dr. Tara Narula joined the CBS This Morning show to discuss the different ways that food alters your mood, and what you can do to help yourself.

The bacteria found in your gut communicates with your brain through neurons to dictate how you're feeling. If you want to reduce the risk of depression and anxiety in a natural way, you can start by stocking your fridge and cupboards with the right kinds of food and vitamins. Fermented foods such as kimchi, sauerkraut, Brussels sprouts, onions, and garlic, can all lead to healthy gut bacteria.

Taking natural supplements such as Magnesium, vitamins B & D, Zinc, Iron, Omega-3s, and Amino Acids should also help boost your mood. If you're looking for a new diet to try in 2018, the Mediterranean Diet is a great place to start.
