I know this is probably something pretty stupid and insignificant to write about, but I wanted to get it off my chest. I've been playing an MMO for the past 7 months and I've been way too shy to make friends. I dressed up my character as a mascot of another popular game and received a lot of compliments from other players. But that seems to be as far as it goes. I can get people's attention, but I don't know how to connect with them and make friends. I know MMOs probably aren't the best for a shy person, but knowing that there are real people behind the other characters on my screen makes me feel a lot less lonely and a feeling I can only describe as "safe".

Left with nothing but a quietness
What is it that we live for? For what reason are we here? These are the questions that have led me to where I am today. I look back on my younger self as a...

I hate you, I love you
I’m gay, and I got the courage to message a guy I have liked for years out on a date, and he accepted. He said “maybe”. I thought if he wasn’t straight...
Last one i ever played i just walked up to people and they were like wtf? Just trying to make friends rude jerks. People get too rude and have big egos plus they had options of trading equipment which one or 2 ripped me off since i was new so i just said screw it and quit you cant play mean rude snobby unfair people. And im shy too so i know where you're coming from.
ReplyThe people in the MMO I play are pretty nice, most of them are at least. I'm just too shy to talk to them. But I do have small conversations with players in the town area from time to time so I guess things are getting better.
ReplyI used to play lots of MMOs, sometimes with friends and mostly of the time on my own. I played Grand Fantasia and some players begin behaving way too weird, like: OMG what a pretty girl!
Uh huh, falling for a 2D/3D model.
Then, I tried out Runescape, what I got?
Marry me? Be my girl I'll make you rich, I'm a Premium player? No, thanks.
Don't talk to him 'cause he's poor? Again, no thank you.
I also played Lucent Hearts and had lots of fun with it.
ReplyLuckily the no one has hit on my character yet. The players in the game I play are pretty polite. Though I'm not sure if I should feel happy or sad about not being hit on because I did make my character really cute XD
ReplyDon't be, because most likely people who play same game as yours has the same interest as you, perhaps shy like you too. MMO is considered 'social' gaming, so it's not wrong nor it seems weird to talk to random players or join their group suddenly, actually it's a very good thing if you do start communicate with players, ask their weapons choices and so. You can start small by joining any team doing quests, or just say hi. Sometimes you don't get response, and that's okay. Usually when players don't reply is due to joining discord voice chat or steam chat (for PC) or they're streamers, it's very easy to miss the in-game chat replies. If you do get response, join their quest, help each other.
What MMO you're playing?
ReplyYeah I usually hang around one of the main towns where there are a lot of people, I've been too shy to talk people most of the time but a few days ago there was a bard playing music in town so I went near him to listen to his music and midway he stopped playing and came over to look at my character because he noticed my character's outfit. We sent each other private messages so I guess that's progress XD I'm playing Final Fantasy 14
