So my friend has recently been struggling a lot more than normal with her CPTSD and tells me it’s gotten so bad that she can’t fall asleep alone at night.
One of my biggest problems when people vent to me is I instantly try to fix their problem because I have no clue what else to say. I’m perfectly fine with people venting to me, I actually want to become a therapist when I’m older.
Can anyone give me advice on what I should or shouldn’t talk/ask about??
Thx :)

It’s hard to speak for us and it’s good she’s able to vent.
Be there and cherish her
ReplyWell if you want to be a good therapist you should be able to talk about anything the good the bad and everything in between that’s what I do with my therapist and it’s made our relationship amazing so if you want to a good therapist be open about everything
ReplyWhen I vent the things I want to hear are:
wow I had no idea you struggle this much
You've grown a lot since we've last talked
I can tell you work hard to get past your struggles
I admire this about you
hug them
Ask them how that makes them feel or does that make you feel this way?
be honest and say I've never been through this but I love you and I'm here for you NO MATTER WHAT
all you can do is let them know you're there and you're always going to be
Replylet them know that progress is linear and they don't have to do anything to earn your love because you love them for who they are.
