Okay, I get it. Most of us were the nerds in school. Never a part of the cool kids. So we get out, we become rock gods (in our sector anyway), and, finally, we have power.
We were, depending upon the person, school, and even the day, picked on, ignored, isolated and told to "man up" or "grow a thicker skin" when we complained about the bullying, sometimes the bullying was so subtle, it could not be proved, so we were told we were being "too sensitive".
So, now we have the power and the glory. With great power comes great responsibility...
And we have turned into our own torturers. We act no better than our own bullies - we were different from the high scool social norm, so we were piced on. Now, we pick on those who do not meet our social norm. We isolate, ignore, and bully blacks, hispanics, women, LGBT, basically anyone not like us: middle class nerd boys.
Congratulations, my fellow brogrammers - we are now the cool kids and we choose to act like high school bullies.
Why do we not spend some time learning how to be more inclusive? Studies show teams with diversity produce better work. We all need to work to be more INclusive.
Let's try to be BETTER than our high school bullies.
