I wake up to the sound of silence. I have no idea how I got here as it does not look like my home. My ears are ringing and my head is throbbing. I recall that the cold war had been going on for 76 years, 49 years before I was born. I remember sirens going off, people screaming, and a bright flash of light which knocked me unconscious. I dig out of the rubble which once was my house and look around. What I see, will stay with me forever. Every building destroyed, not a soul in sight. I cough with the dust of the rubble stuck in my throat, with the smell of burning in my nostrils.

Storm clouds have the light of day obscured. As I walk around, all I see is destruction. Treading through the ruins of the city, I see the bones of what once was a living person scattered over the broken up concrete. A deeper sense of despair washes over me. run away and shout for signs of life. I hear nothing other than the faint whistle of wind blowing between the bombed buildings.
